Behind The Artist

IMG_7619.jpeg

Dear Reader,

Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to the whimsical, magical, art of storytelling. Growing up, I found magic in books, art, and movies. Spending time outside chasing fairies that danced through the light of the apple trees and poured over the pages of distant lands and fighting dragons. Now, I look for magic in simpler moments- the way water glitters when the sun hits it just right, or the radiant colors of the sun touching a meadow.

I’ve been lucky enough to live in many beautiful places, growing up in Green Bay, Wisconsin and then moving to Hawaii to study Environmental Studies. I now call Colorado home and work as a water quality scientist. My love and passion for the outdoors and noticing subtleties became my job, but I missed expressing myself creatively. I explored writing, photography, videography, but those mediums didn't fully translate how I saw the world and how I, in turn, wanted others to see me.

Throughout my childhood and college, I spent my free time sketching trees and painting with my friends. I'd spend my time, in between studying, painting watercolored flowers at the small desk in my dorm room. I had never imagined painting being the medium that I would share until this past winter when I picked up oils for the first time. I felt like it had finally clicked that this is what I was meant to create. Through oils, I discovered a way for me to share my whimsical spirit and love for the magic of nature.

Fast forward to today, I am an artist in Louisville, Colorado. For now, I focus on romantic landscapes with dreamy light rays while exploring both acrylic and oil painting. My art is created to capture how I see light and create a feeling of soft, romantic, stillness. Feelings you might find sitting alongside a gentle creek underneath a willow tree. A soft place to land and rest your gaze for a moment.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for following my journey. I cannot wait to see how this grows and the community we build together.

With love,

Sydney Alexis
